Dave Mahoney’s passion is seeing people be the best they can be—in life, in work, and in sports. His favorite stories are those about people overcoming significant obstacles and achieving their dreams in the face of adversity.
An athlete, a student, and a teacher, Dave has played professional golf, taught top golfers, succeeded in business, and learned from some of the best coaches. Throughout his life, he continued to note how attitude and perception affect the decisions we make and the lives we create. It’s the core of DM Performance Coaching.
After spending time with some of the world’s most highly regarded sports and performance psychologists, Dave became certified as a sports and performance psychology coach to follow his true passion: unlocking potential. His goal: to impart these principles and share the tools designed to help you achieve your best.
Dave’s Teachers
Doctor Bob Rotella
What do rock stars, professional athletes, and you all have in common?
Goals may be different, but success is all the same. Seeing the potential in everyone is Dr. Rotella’s gift, and Dave’s inspiration behind becoming a coach.
At the beginning of his professional golf career, Dave was personally mentored by golf’s most recognizable Sports Psychologist, Dr. Bob Rotella. Since 1984, Dr. Rotella has coached the winners of 74 major championships, in men’s, women’s and senior professional golf. He’s helped top professional athletes in all major sports to unlock their potential.
When Dave met with Dr. Rotella he was amazed by the success he had not only with golfers, but with people in all walks of life. The walls in his house were covered with array of success stories: thank-you letters from big corporations like Coca-Cola, signed pictures from golf hall of famers Phil Mickelson and Freddy Couples, and a signed record from Grammy-nominated band, The Goo Goo Dolls, thanking Dr. Rotella for helping them beyond their writer’s block. It was an awe-inspiring testament to his coaching. On the way to play golf with Dr. Rotella one day, Dave asked, “How do you help all these people reach success even if it isn’t golf?” Doctor Bob replied, “It’s all the same thing.”
Free will, commitment, persistence, and confidence are all part of Dr. Bob Rotella’s philosophy that Dave imparts to his clients today: using your mind as your greatest asset. Dr. Rotella’s positivity, zest for life, and training techniques all play a huge role in Dave’s coaching today.
Doctor JoAnn Dahlkoetter
Success Has a Formula
In 2013, Dave had the honor of working with and being certified as a Performance Coach by Doctor JoAnn Dahlkoetter, the owner and CEO of Performing Edge Coaching International. Dr JoAnn is a world-renowned psychologist who has helped numerous Olympic and professional athletes, top business executives, and performing artists all become their best. She has been featured in Sports Illustrated, and has been a guest commentator on ABC’s Wide World of Sports and NBC’s Sports World. She has also been recognized as the number one triathlete in the United States, has won the San Francisco Marathon, and also came in second at the World’s Ironman in Hawaii. As both an athlete and a coach, Dave relates extremely well with Dr. JoAnn, and they work together to this day ensuring that you get the best coaching available.
Dave references Dr. Dahlkoetter’s course as one of the best choices he has made as both an athlete and a coach. Doctor JoAnn has given Dave the formula she has used for 30 years with her own clients: examining your desires in a holistic and balanced way, encompassing all aspects of your life in regards to your goals, and the tools and techniques to make you happy and fulfilled on your journey to success. The lessons you’ll receive will often extend far beyond the area you’re working on, and can serve to help you in all aspects of your life. It’s a part of Dr. Dahlkoetter’s formula, and it works.
As part of the Performing Edge Coaching International’s ongoing mentoring program, Dave remains connected with other psychologists, athletes, and performance coaches from across the world.
In a recent correspondence, Dr. JoAnn wrote to Dave: “You are very dedicated to this training and you are truly one of the best students and Coaches I have had the honor of working with.”
